The National Skills Commission periodically provides advice to the Australian Government regarding skills gaps in the Australian labour market. Australia’s skills-related migration visas are underpinned by the following lists, which combine to form the Skilled Migration Occupation List:
These lists are used to guide employers of occupations in demand, that they can use to nominate and sponsor foreign candidates for available visa pathways.
EMPLOYER SPONSORED - TEMPORARY WORK VISAS482- Temporary Skills Shortage Visa (TSS Visa)This is a temporary visa that employers can use to fill skills gaps from occupations on specified skills lists. Depending on the stream visa applicants can have pathways to permanent residency. This visa is granted for 2 or 4 years. 400 - Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) visaThis visa allows employers to utilise offshore highly specialised recruits for short term non-ongoing projects for a period of up to 6 months. 494 - Skilled Employer Regional (Provisional) visaThis is a provisional visa for employers in regional areas wanting to attract foreign labour.
